Zuni fetish artist Delvin Leekya comes from a family of carvers, and he is the grandson of Leekya Deyuse. Delvin continues to create traditional fetishes in the style of his famous grandfather. This outstanding bear is made out of Travertine (Zuni Rock) and is bundled with Turquoise and Abalone. Zuni bear fetishes represent healing and strength. Zuni fetishes are carvings made from various materials by the Zuni people. Traditionally, fetishes served a ceremonial purpose for their creators and they represented animals and figures that were part of their culture. With a myriad of materials like turquoise, shell, jet, marble, serpentine, and much more, Zuni fetish carvers are able to create carvings in a style of their own.
