A charming addition to any art or pottery collection. Birdell “Vine Flower” Bourdon from the Santa Clara Pueblo, made this pottery bear with natural clay. Birdell continues a long tradition of hand coiling pottery. She was taught the traditional methods by her mother, Marie Sisneros Askan, and she has been making pottery since the of age 10. Birdell specializes in highly polished blackware in a wide variety of forms.

The Santa Clara Pueblo of New Mexico is the largest of 19 Pueblos in the state. It is situated in the Rio Grande River Valley. Among the arts practiced at Santa Clara Pueblo, pottery is one of the most well-known. Santa Clara Pueblo potters are known for their black polished and red polished pottery in a distinctive style, especially the use of incised work. “Knife-wing” or eagle feather designs are common on Santa Clara pottery.
