Description
Navajo weaver Joanne Begaye created this beautiful hand woven rug out of wool. Alluring colors compliment the Zia symbol design. For the Zia, the Zia sun symbol represents the Circle of Life: four winds, four seasons, four directions, and four sacred obligations. Neatly woven and well balanced, this magnificent rug would be a great addition to your Native American art or Navajo rug collection.

Traditional weavers raise the sheep and shear, wash, card and spin the wool. They dye the wool with native plants such as lichen, wild walnut, rabbit brush, and also use the wool in its natural colors. Weavers string a homemade loom and then begin weaving at the bottom of the warp. Weaving is done with the weaver sitting on the ground, and they are usually taught how to weave, as well as how to attain their resources, by their mothers.
