Description
Hopi Kachina carver, Tyson Nequatewa has been creating kachinas for over 40 years. Over the years, he has won many awards for his work. Tyson expertly carves each kachina out of the root of a cottonwood tree with an amazing amount of detail and precision. Each kachina that Tyson carves, has a highly detailed corn body.
The Angwusi or Crow Kachina is usually seen teaming up with the Lizard Kachinas and the Owl Kachinas during the Soyohim Ceremany. Their main function is to keep the clowns in line. He would join the other kachinas in chastising the actions of the clown until the clowns got too far. Then, he would punish them with the whips he carries. All animals are an important part of the Hopi culture, they are believed to provide guidance, health, and protection. A wonderful addition to your Native American art or Hopi Kachina collection.
