Half Hopi, half Zuni Jerome Nequatewa was raised with the knowledge of the culture and customs of both the Hopi and the Zuni. Jerome was taught to carve by his father, the late Harold Nequatewa. Jerome’s kachinas are delicately carved, showing attention to movement and detail.
The Koshare or the Pueblo clowns are jesters or tricksters in the Kachina religion. The clowns perform during the spring and summer fertility rites.
Jerome yields to the natural shape of cottonwood root in order to create this wonderfully carved Corn Maiden Kachina. This marvelous carving would be a great addition to your kachina or Native American art collection. Signed
