Description

Description

Hopi Kachina carver, Tyson Nequatewa has been creating kachinas for over 40 years.  Over the years, he has won many awards for his work.  Tyson expertly carves each kachina out of the root of a cottonwood tree with an amazing amount of detail and precision.  Each kachina that Tyson carves, has a highly detailed corn body.

The Turtle, or the Kahaila, Kachina is an important part of the Hopi culture.  The turtle is a water creature, and water is viewed as a necessity to the life of the Hopi.  The long beard on this Katsina represents falling rain, and the feathers on the beard and the back of the head are symbols of prayers.  A wonderful addition to your Native American art or Hopi Kachina collection.  Signed
