Navajo sand painting artist, Norman Simms made this wonderful sand painting depicting a Yei. Sand paintings are made mainly out of naturally colored sand, that comes from rocks that are crushed. Each color represents a direction and a time of day; Blue- South and Midday Sky, Black-North and Night, Yellow-West and Evening Twilight, White-East and Dawn.

Navajo people believe that the universe to be delicately balanced. Only man can upset it, causing disaster and/or illness. When this happens, a medicine mane must restore the natural balance.
