CORN DANCER KACHINA JEROME NEQUATEWA NATIVE AMERICAN

Description

Description

Half Hopi, half Zuni Jerome Nequatewa was raised with the knowledge of the culture and customs of both the Hopi and the Zuni.  Jerome was taught to carve by his father, the late Harold Nequatewa.  Jerome’s kachinas are delicately carved, showing attention to movement and detail.

The Ka-e or Corn Dancer is probably the most popular of all the kachinas. They appear in the Kiva Dances, Plaza Dances and Mixed Dances. He represents a prayer for the fruition and growth of corn. His costume is similar to the designs of the eastern pueblos with distinguishable horizontally crossed feathers on the crown.

Jerome yields to the natural shape of cottonwood root in order to create this wonderfully carved Corn Dancer Kachina.  This magnificent carving would be a great addition to your kachina or Native American art collection.  Signed
9″ tall x 3  1/8” long x 2  1/8” wide
